From Trailer to Dream Home—A LegalShield Journey
Sometimes, you have to put your dreams on the back burner and just get to work.
That’s what I learned growing up in Lancaster County, PA. In 1985, my father had the opportunity to purchase his own farm. Looking back now, I’m struck by the sacrifice he and my mom made to make that happen. They gave up a lot—but they worked hard, and things got brighter.
That lesson stuck with me.
In 2006, my wife and I purchased 18 acres right next to my dad’s farm. We moved a small mobile home onto the land with three kids—and one more on the way. It felt like history repeating itself. My wife was patient while our friends built houses. I had dreams of my own, but I knew I had to earn them.
Then LegalShield came along.
I saw it as a vehicle—something that could help us build the life we imagined. I started part-time, and before long, my LegalShield income surpassed what we were earning from our family business. That gave me the confidence to go full-time.
The first five years were tough. I got beat up out there. People said “no,” “not now,” “not interested.” But I didn’t quit. I didn’t let the naysayers win.
Eventually, the residual income I built began to exceed my monthly advances. That’s when everything shifted. In early 2011, we finally drew up plans for the house I’d been dreaming about for years. LegalShield gave me the time freedom to build it myself—and by December, we moved in.
Each of our kids had their own room. We left the trailer behind.
Doing the work on that house myself reminded me of building my business. The blood, sweat, and tears make you appreciate what you’ve built. And when you’ve walked through the fire, you’re better equipped to help others stick with it too.
I can’t think of anything more rewarding than educating families—and being paid to do it.
